
How do I grill or barbecue my Diestel turkey?
Diestel turkeys are terrific when grilled or barbecued. Here are some tips to guarantee that juicy, tender, flavorful meat every time you barbecue a Diestel turkey.
Prepare the turkey as if for roasting. Follow our bag instructions by preparing metal, dome-shaped barbecue for indirect cooking method (i.e., by placing turkey on grill with dripping pan beneath). Follow the Diestel turkey roasting instructions (on bag) for cooking times. Start with 15 briquettes on each side of the pan, adding only 5-7 briquettes on each side per hour thereafter.
Due to uneven heat circulation in the barbecue, we find the turkey to be more evenly roasted if started breast side down for the first half of grilling. Then turn breast side up for second half of grilling.
Always be sure to use good quality, long lasting charcoal briquettes for thorough grilling. When done to your liking remove from grill and enjoy!
